Les Saules Pleureurs

Classic Wings
Short Bald Bloke (@TownGaz) says:
“Our trip in G-AIYR was a random flight of fancy: the plane was there, the price was right, and we were in the mood! Built in 1943 G-AIYR served in the RAF as HG 691. It had a variety of roles after WWII, most notably, in 1980, an historic commemorative flight from the UK to South Africa. The plane is in lovely condition and evocative of a bygone age. Great fun!”

Classic Wings have been operating at Duxford since 1990, providing flights and corporate entertainment using their fleet of two beautifully restored 1930s De Havilland Dragon Rapides and Tiger Moths

SweetnSour Swing are a Sino-Caucasian duo featuring a broken-hearted Erhu and a guitar, playing jazz, blues & old time Music Hall, with an Oriental Twist – Sino-Caucasian Nostalgia!

Malphino El Lava de Gabacho EP Launch
Two videos featuring Malphino performing “Sombrero de Panama” and their signature “Mi Malphino” at the launch of their debut EP “El Lava de Gabacho” Sunday 2nd June. The event was held in the lovely República de Malphino* where a crowd of 200 or more locals and visitors enjoyed local delicacies, drink, music and dancing in the tropical heat!
República de Malphino
Short Bald Bloke (@TownGaz) says:
“In our first video Malphino’s effervescent vocalist Surya treats us to the joyful get-up-and-dance ‘Sombrero de Panama’ and effortlessly demonstrates how to move to the music! Each number played added to the vibrant and contagious mood, and by the time they played their finale, ‘Mi Malphino’, the audience were fully in the swing, everyone having a great time!”

In their own words: “Malphino is a band that plays a heady mix of Latin American music – from Brazilian Forró to Colombian Cumbia via a variety of tropical rhythms and a nod of the hat to Italian film score. While based in London, members of Malphino hail from all corners of the world (including Japan, Malaysia, Réunion island and the Philippines).

The band usually comprises accordion, tuba, organ, gitane guitar and percussion but will often have guest instruments and vocals appearing in live performances.” For more tracks check out their Soundcloud page and to purchase the EP visit Lex Store. EP produced by Catapulte Records

Patti Plinko – manic chanteuse

Patti Plinko caught live on the GTG shaky cam at The Severed Limb Album Launch at Bethnal Green Working Men’s Club, Fri 1st March 2013.

Following some lovely numbers from Kings Cross Hot Club, Patti Plinko’s lively performance contributed to a terrific launch event for The Severed Limb’s “Kill Me” album.

The Severed Limb

Variously described as ‘dreamy’ ‘dark’ ‘sneering’ ‘seductive’ with vocals that ‘flirt amongst sounds of dirty jazz, gypsy folk and European chanson’ Patti puts on a great show!
   @TownGaz
In the words of our man on the spot, Short Bald Bloke:
“Patti Plinko is different. Unique. Stunning. When she came on stage complete with a large glass of wine I knew we were in for a good show. The band started their set with an amazingly theatrical slow tempo rendition of ‘Hound Dog’ complete with whooping, barking and howling that would have the hound of the Baskervilles hyperventilating with excitement. I wish I’d caught that one on video! The whole performance was larger than life, with everyone in the band and audience clearly enjoying themselves. This number is quite long, but make sure you watch it to the end..If I were to summarise the performance in three words they would have to be: harder! faster! louder!

GTG Artist of the Moment: Misty Miller
Music

Misty Miller killer songstress
Last November we were bowled over by Misty Miller’s solo performance at The Severed Limb Night at the Grosvenor in Stockwell and showcased her brilliant track You know what I mean as our track of the month.

More recently we caught her again at a Midnight Barbers event at Paper Dress Vintage in Hoxton, where the band performed a cracking set, including our favourite Lonesome Cowboy, featured above.

Misty Miller killer songstress
Misty Miller has a powerful and vibrant retro rock style, her lyrics often having a melancholy edge, but also softened with some nuggets of wry humour. Misty has great talent…and is destined for great things we’re sure…and we’re pleased to feature her as GTG Artist of the Moment!
In the words of our man on the spot, Short Bald Bloke (@TownGaz):
“I was gobsmacked when I saw Misty Miller perform solo at The Severed Limb Night at the Grosvenor, Stockwell on November 9th. Just 18, she writes her own songs, sings and plays guitar with gusto. Too much is not enough!”

Tash and Beth My Old Lover
The hot sultry sound of Tash and Beth’s My Old Lover recorded live at The Midnight Barbers night, Paper Dress Vintage, Feb 2nd 2013.
Tash and Beth Facebook
Short Bald Bloke (@TownGaz) says:
“My Old Lover by Tash and Beth was one of the highlights of the evening. Tasha Mallett’s rich earthy vocals, with shades of Janis Joplin, complemented by Beth Soan’s dreamy backing and superb guitar. The song is evocative of long hot days, big cars with even bigger fins, passion and trouble in the Deep South, invoking for me images from movies such as Willem Dafoe’s The Loveless and Dennis Hopper’s Hot Spot“. Pass me a mint julep!

Tash and Beth’s repertoire includes a mix of their own compositions and American folk and blues classics in their ‘raw electric Mississippi influenced guitar and harmonica blues’ style. For downloads check out their Bandcamp.
