WDT London Summer Beer Weekend 2012
World Drinking Tour London Summer Beer Weekend 2012
A Right Proper Warm-up
A 4-day wet-run for the WDT European Tour 2012: London Aug 23-26th 2012
London Aug 23-26:
Only 30 days to go.. 30 days until the event of the year: the WorldDrinkingTour.com European Tour 2012 (Munich-Dusseldorf-Amsterdam-Brussels) and anybody taking part in that arduous mission knows it’s vital to be in peek form. That means dedication. Commitment. Above all, training!
So we decided it would be prudent to hold a warm up event. A practice run (but definitely not a dry run – Ed) to get our minds and bodies into condition for the main event.
And where better than London, with it’s new tradition of sporting success, efficient transportation (taxis), and dozens of world-class training facilities (bars)?
So this weekend instead of relaxing or wasting time on futile DIY projects our dedicated team will be out pumping iron, pounding the track, pushing our minds and bodies to 110% and beyond for four days of intensive training on the WDT London Summer Beer Weekend 2012
Taster Preview
As is traditional, to help the participants get in the mood we’re publishing this special taster preview highlighting some interesting beverages and bars we will soon be enjoying!
Our journey of discovery and rediscovery takes us across London, but our mission has clear focus (at least at the start): superior venues and beverages only!
First we’re off to sample product’s from Grey Town’s very own, brand new, brewery Cronx which we’re planning to do at Half and Half in South Croydon.
Then we’ll be heading up to Pimlico to dive into the ocean of British and International craft beers at the Cask Pub & Kitchen (one of our participants is American, and after the long flight over he will doubtless need to restore his blood-IPA level to normal).
If we don’t drown prematurely at the Cask (and survive the following morning at work) on Friday afternoon we’re off somewhere new (for us): The Craft Beer Co in Clerkenwell, followed by our old favourite Lowlander (a.k.a.Lowlifer) in Covent Garden where, like the true athletes we are, we will force ourselves to drink a few choice brews from their cellar of classics: Westmalle Tripel (for sure); Rochefort 10; Maredsous Tripel; Hopus; Duvel; Troubador and trusty old St Bernardus. Oh and Straffe Hendrik Quadruppel. And Rodenbach. And… oh, how will we choose?
Saturday, after running our livers though a mangle, we will be heading to the Kernel Brewery Bermondsey for a brunch (as in it’s correct meaning ‘beer-lunch’) of IPAs, porters and stouts. Oh, and some tasty bread, cheese and meats from their neighbours.
From the Kernel (which closes at 3pm) time permitting we might check out The Dean Swift and/or The Draft House at Tower Bridge before heading off for a pit stop and synchronization of watches at the Euston Tap. To round off the day a trip to the Brewdog Camden.
Sunday is of course the day of rest and what better way to do so than to spend a leisurely afternoon at the White Horse Parsons Green? Which, by a serendipitous stroke of luck, just happens to be holding a beer festival! Fancy that!
Sunday evening we’ll see what happens…
